According to The Daily Times Sports Editor Pilirani Kachinziri, who is travelling with the team, Fam included Kambalazaza to offer spiritual help to Flames during their last World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burkinabees on November 14.

Kachinziri  said Fam had also incorporated Malawi College of Medicine psychologist Gus Banda.

“Gus will work be working on physical fitness of players and also psychological part,” he said.

Malawi left behind two local players Escom United goalkeeper Charles Swine and MTL Wanderers defender Harry Nyirenda.

Swine and Nyirenda are expected to leave today  for South Africa where they will link up with professional players before connecting to Ethiopia to join the rest of the squad.

Malawi will spend two days in Addis Ababa before departing for Ouagadougou tomorrow.

Flames coach Kinnah Phiri was confident that the team would succeed.

“I ask the nation not to forget us in their prayers,” he said.

Kinnah also supported the idea of departing early saying they would have enough time to rest and train together.

“This arrangement is vibrant,” he said.

Fam president Walter Nyamilandu, chief executive officer Charles Nyirenda,  goalkeepers trainer McHodges Chunga, team manager Stuart Mbolembole, Red Lions midfielder Dave Banda, Nomads goalkeeper Simplex Nthala, Chiukepo Msowoya, Victor Nyirenda and Maupo Msowoya were among the Flames delegation, who left Sunday.

Striker Esau Kanyenda joined the squad in Lilongwe Sunday.

Meanwhile, Flames flight was delayed from 3:30pm to 7:30pm.

Alex (41.10.0.36) 2009-11-10 18:19:55 Ha! ha! ha ! ha! what a waste!Kambalazaza for what?Imagine this scenario...what if Kambalazaza spiritually lifted the team spirits and they prayed and fasted and wept to the Lord and they Lord listened to them ..but wait!! what if the Burkina Faso did the same?Prayed and called on the lord to help them(with the same intensity and faith as the Flames?)...Both teams being his sons and since he loves them both...he might decide not to intervene at all ...bottom line,this is a game of skill,determination,confidence and i has very little to do with Faith.Please do not misunderstand me..I am not saying the team does not need spiritual guidance but sending a whole Pastor with the team is waste...period.The Pastor could have a session with these Guys before they departed.Think of his allowances and everything..for a team with very limited resources this is going overboard.
