LukandoTen contestants had the hope to succeed but there was only one place for the winner so it was Zambian Lukando Nalungwe who smiled at Eko Hotel Exhibition Centre in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday.

Incredible designs that looked chic on slim bodies were no doubt an exhibition of beauty at the event beamed on MNet’s Channel 102.

Ten Nigeria’s top designers left a mark but it was Yemi Osunkoya who smiled all night; the dress he designed was worn by the eventual winner Lukando.

The fashion talents of South African David Tlale and John Kaveke of Kenya were also displayed at the event.

Performances by Lira and Nigerian Dbanj who spiced up the event. Dbanj was joined on stage by Dr Sid and Wande Coal.

The four runner-ups who were a threat to Lukando all night were Tholakele (South Africa), Rosanna (Zimbabwe), Ernania (Mozambique) and Marvis (Nigeria).

Lukando received $50,000 from MNet, a modelling contract with O Modelling Agency of Oluchi Onweagba and a chance to take part in New York Fashion Week.

Zenith Bank also gave Lukando a $5,000 shopping voucher which she will used while in New York.
Lukando is a 22-year-old student from Kabwe, Zambia. She is currently studying for a certificate in Business Administration. Her favourite movies are Van Helsing, The Matrix, Transformers, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and 300.

After she was selected in the top 10 prior to the Nigeria event, she said the best thing about Africa is its “beautiful historic places and wildlife.”
