Owner of Pachikweza Radio Station Gabriel Kondesi will join Kaphuka Private Schools in November, Kondesi's father Jonas confirmed on Wednesday.
“He will not be able to join the school on November 2 when they are opening for the first term. He wants to finish roofing the house which will be used as the radio station because he is also a carpenter. “He will therefore join his colleagues on November 5 after completing the house for the radio equipment installation,” Jonasi said. Managing Director for Kaphuka Private Schools Jackson Kaphuka also confirmed the scholarship in an interview on Wednesday. The scholarships covers both primary and secondary school levels. “We learnt about the issue of Gabriel through the media. We therefore also disclosed our offer of scholarships to him through the same media first before we wrote him,” he said. Kondesi is a Standard 7 drop out. Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) granted the community where Pachikweza radio operated a broadcasting licence on Tuesday. Macra also pledged to install modern radio equipment valued about K10 million at the station. A Mulanje court earlier this month convicted Kondesi for operating the radio station illegally.
