Police in Li longwe have arrested two teenagers from whom they have recovered a pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.
A statement from Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Ramsey Mushani, says the two youngsters were selling the gun.
"Jonathan Mwe n y e a n d Samson Banett, both aged 16, were arrested on Friday in Lilongwe Old Town after the police learnt that the two were selling the gun at K80,000," reads part of the statement released yesterday.
The statement adds that the police have instituted an inquiry to establish how the two youngsters came to possess the gun.
Mwenye hails from Senzani Village, T/A Phambala in Balaka while Banett comes Dzinjiriza Village T/A Makawangala in Ntcheu. They are both residents of Biwi Township in Lilongwe.
According to Mushani, the two will appear in court as soon as investigations are over to answer a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
In a related development, police have arrested Wilfun Ngalawa, 50, Gift Makondetsa, 35 and George Laston, 25 for being suspected to have stolen a mini-bus which they later dismantled and sold some of its parts.
The police have since recovered the minibus' engine and gearbox from a hole which Ngalawa dug inside his house.
Ngalawa hails from Nkwelera while Laston comes from Nchenche village, both village in T/A Malili in Lilongwe.
Makondetsa comes from Nkanda village TA Kalolo, also from Lilongwe.
The three are expected to appear in court soon to answer a case of theft of a motor vehicle.
