Malawi's World Boxing Forum middleweight champion, Agness Mtimaukanena has hailed her sponsors for donating Water Guard and Nova ORS to Phalombe Health Centre Mtimaukanena in Pharmanova charity following a cholera outbreak that has hit the area.
Mtimaukanena and Pharmanova officials donated the items valued at K250,000 in the area of village headman Chimbalanga, T/A Chiwalo in Malawi's southern district of Phalombe on Tuesday.
The Pharmanova brand ambassador said it was necessary to donate the items to save lives that were in danger.
"It was a moving moment because the situation is very pathetic. Most lives are in danger and I commend my sponsors for making it possible for us to donate the items," she said.
Pharmanova marketing manager Peter Makwana hailed the press for highlighting the cholera outbreak.
"If it had not been of the media we could not have made the donation. We actually saw the plight of the people. We hope the donation will help those that have been affected to recover and at the same time it will prevent the further spread of the outbreak," he said.
Phalombe District Environmental Health Officer Sam Epiphe said the donation was timely because it would help them overcome the outbreak.
"Pharmanova came at the right time. They donated both powder and liquid water-guard.
However, we were more excited with the powder water-guard because under this situation it is the most effective one," he said.
