Former Football Association of Malawi (Fam) executive committee member Julius Mithi has said he is excited at the prospect of returning to football administration as Malawi National Council of Sports board member.
President Joyce Banda has named new board members for Sports Council which is dominated by seasoned sports administrators.
In an interview after the announcement of the new board members, Mithi said he was honoured to be appointed by thePresident.
"In the first place I would like to state that I have not received the letter of appointment hence it may be too early for me to comment much," he said.
He, however, said he was ready to serve the sports fraternity following the appointment.
"The appointment will encourage me to see what will be my terms of teference, but as I have heard on the radio1, I would like to humbly thank the President, Vice President and the Sports Minister Enoch Chihana for recognising me because of my talents in sports. I am a seasoned sports administrator hence I will not disappoint the Sports fraternity."
The president has maintained Lazarus Chakwera as chairperson with Emmanuel Gondwe, Wilma Chalulu, Grace Thipa, Dean Pinto, Gwynth Chisale, Gibson Mkanda, Yasin Osman, Julius Mithi and Khrishna Achutan as members.
The development has given hope to various sports associations since the board members have experience in sports and know what the country needs for sports to develop.
Out of the 10 members, six are actively involved in various sports disciplines as administrators.
Thipa is Southern Region Netball Committee general secretary, Osman is former national team coach and player and qualified Confederation of African Football (Caf) coaches Instructor.
Pinto, a former Mighty Wanderers player, is Malawi Aquatic Union (Mau) president and a player for Blantyre Sports Club darts team.
Mkanda once served as Silver Strikers general secretary, Achutan is actively involved with Hockey Association of Malawi where he is general secretary.
The former Sports Council board was dissolved last month.
The dissolved board had Chakwera as chairman, Dr Tikhala Chibwana as vice chairman with Emmanuel Gondwe, Prof. Alfred Mtenje, Wilkins Mijiga, Wilma Chalulu, Brigadier Clement Kafuwa, Jabber Alide and Esther Maliro as members.
