The Central Region Netball League (CRNL) is on the verge of landing a K1 million sponsorship from an undisclosed institution.
The league's chairman Fanuel Katengeza disclosed the development on Thursday.
"The deal is almost done and we are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with the institution this weekend. They are happy to work with us to develop the sport," he said.
CRNL lost its sponsorship from Bioclinical last year.
"The sponsorship will come as a relief. We have been running without sponsorship for the past year and things have been tough on our part," Katengeza said.
The chairman said after signing the agreement, they would announce full details ahead of the launch.
"We are planning to hold a colourful launch to celebrate the sponsorship," he said.
Katengeza said the standards of the sport in the region were steadily developing and he cited players such as Takondwa Lwazi, Khumbize Chazemba and Beauty Chirwa as some of its promising products.
"Takondwa was part of the national team that recently went to Australia for the international tournament while both Chazemba and Chirwa trained with the senior team before being dropped. We have a crop of talented players who are making our league exciting to watch," he said.
