We hear that as many as three people have so far been arrested in connection with the fraud which has seen government losing at least K9 million. The amount could be higher considering that there could be more people involved in the syndicate who have gone underground.
While commending government for its innovation which we believe has cut down the number of ghost workers, and save money, we want to urge that there is need for continued vigilance against any kind of fraud. No system, let alone a new one can be perfect. Besides new things will always be resisted by those who have vested interests in the status quo or those who feel threatened by the change. And so there will always be an effort to frustrate change, however good it may be.
May we also call upon the police to expedite the investigations so that the suspects can be tried speedily and justice meted out accordingly.
