If for some reason, the husband is unemployed or is employed but earns less than what his wife earns, this can give rise to a submission problem on the part of the wife. In as much as this is not right, but it is not easy for an unemployed husband or one who earns less than what his wife earns to confidently exercise his headship in the house, that is why it is important for husbands to work hard inorder to provide for the family. Some spouses think that the money which they earn has nothing to do with their mate as it is their own money.
They believe that they must control and manage their own finances. I want to share with you that such an attitude is dangerous and inconsistent with the covenant nature of marriage. How can married people claim to be one fresh if they cannot share their finances? I believe that regardless of who brings the money home, whatever money a spouse earns belongs to the marriage. It becomes the family's income.
Another money related problem in marriage is debt. My husband will always say that he doesn't believe in debt, that debt is a destroyer. Some couples are in debt left, right and centre.
They have car loans, mortgage loans, their furniture is not yet paid, yet they pretend as if everything is okay. You can not be surrounded by debt and be happy at the same time. What freedom can you possibly talk about?
As a couple, know that debts will only put you in bondage and make it difficult for you to exercise your faith in God as well. How can you possibly believe God for healing if you can not trust Him to meet your financial needs? God's desire is not for us to live in debt that is why the bible says in the book of Romans that "Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another"
Next week I will continue to share more on the same topic.
