 Zambian President Rupiah Banda on Friday opened a $10 million Chipata-Mchinji railway line linking his country with the  Malawi line that connects to Nacala in Mozambique, becoming its "alternative" and shortest route to the Indian Ocean.

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), the social arm of the Catholic Church in the country, has described parliament as a rubber stamp during its first year of the 2009/14 tenure, citing the alarming speed with which bills are passed and lack of effective opposition role in the chamber.

 African countries will on October 30 every year be commemorating the Africa Day  for Food and Nutrition Security courtesy of the proposal made by the Malawi Government at the recent African Union Summit held in Uganda according to a document of resolutions.
